Sancintya Simpson is an emerging photo-media artist, born 1991 Brisbane, Australia, where she currently works and lives. She is a first generation Australian whose migrant parents are of South African-Indian and Anglo-New Zealand heritage. The impact of being brought up in a cross-cultural environment has had a major influence on Simpson’s artistic practice; leading her to explore cultural identity, hybridity, stereotype and othering through portraiture. She utilises her practice as an inclusive way of creating empowering and cathartic experiences for both her subjects and self.
