Jay Younger is a practising artist, curator, and writer. She is an Associate Professor in Photography at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and was Deputy Director from July 05 - December 08. Currently Jay is the Convenor of QCA’s Photography program. She has been the recipient of three significant Australia Council awards: the Peter Brown Memorial Travelling Fellowship for a residency research project undertaken in New York, and two international studio residencies in Florence and Manila

Ulterior, which focuses on the Fitzgerald Inquiry era in Queensland was featured in Glare, a survey of Jay’s work from 1987-2002 at the University of Queensland Art Museum. Glare was accompanied by the first monograph on Jay’s work with essays by Juliana Engberg and Beth Jackson. Jay was selected from the 2004 Conrad Jupiters Art Prize, to receive Aria’s Living Art Award. In 2011 Jay exhibited two major installation works: Goose Stepper’s Tears in ‘Australia Felix’, Crane Arts, Philadelphia and Logan Hypno Grind at Logan Art Gallery in Brisbane.

Jay’s undergraduate studies are in both painting and photography, she studied at the University College of South East Queensland and Queensland College of Art, Griffith University respectively. Postgraduate studies are in both education and photography. In 2011 Jay completed her Phd in the arena of art in public places jointly supervised between the visual art and architecture areas of the University of New South Wales.
