After working in a variety of industries and locations over most of the continent, in the early 1980’s Chapman was transferred to Alice Springs (NT) where he was immediately seduced by the desert. There he bought my first camera (A 35mm Richo KR10), joined the local camera club and was taken under the wing of Victor Urban (AFIAP, LAPS) and Nigel Jefford. Victor had long been considered the father of Central Australian Photography and along with his wife Ann (a keen Botanist), Nigel and others; he spent a year or more combing the MacDonnell Ranges and the surrounding desert with Camera in hand. During the following years his work took him many locations in Australia and overseas, the camera was always there to document and record the landscape of his escapes.
